
In Black and White at the Met
There is black and there is white and then there is black and white. Marrying the polarities for stunning style statements, this year’s Met Gala was all about this pairing.
Quinta Brunson celebrated black and white in a pinstripe dress and dressed it with a beautiful embroidery of flowers over her jacket. The corset dress was designed by Sergio Hudson. Her pixie haircut stood out.
Singer Lizzo was sensational in black and white. She wore a gown that had a black corset and a white fishtail flared bottom. A white detailing on the shoulders completed the Christian Siriano gown. She wore her new platinum blonde hair and added silver jewellery.
Demi Moore played with black and white in a Thom Browne dress with more than 14 laksh beads- sparkling sequins, beads and hand-worked in the atelier. Her black gown with white stripes had a stunning loop over her head in the same fabric.

Ava DuVernay’s Met Gala dress was a tribute to her great-grandmother, who forged her path in early Hollywood as a seamstress to the stars. Her custom Prada black and white dress had a white silk corset and a black satin skirt, embroidered, and kept true to the original outfit which inspired it.
Mona Patel made a big impact at the Met Gala when she chose to be accompanied by a robotic dog. In her classic black and white ensemble by Thom Browne, her companion was as well dressed and inspired by Browne’s dog Hunter. A masculine look made feminine, it had a halter shirt and a powerful black suit with ivory lining. Her beaded corset bodice was shimmery and paired with a sensational robotic spine.
Deborah Roberts made a stunning style statement in black and white with her husband, Al Roker, both in matching top hats. Her Mark Ingram gown had black ankle pants and a white structured gown.

In an Audrey Hepburn tribute moment, Jennie Kim wore custom Chanel black and white to the Met Gala. Her dress was strapless, with pearl buttons on the bodice, layers of pearls, a pearl white flower, and a split hem on her voluminous black skirt. She wore a jaunty two-tone boater hat.
