All White at the Met Gala
All white is a hard fashion statement to make an impact, but with classic elan and drama, Madonna pulled off a sensational entry. When working on a single colour, shades can help to lend depth and variance. Madonna wore an ivory double-breasted Tom Form by Haider Ackermann tuxedo with pleated trousers, and a white shirt and a single gardenia on her lapel. It was a perfect androgynous ensemble that the star is best known for.
Singer Rosalia took the gala by storm when she came in a Balmain sculpted Olivier Rousteing gown in all-white. The gown had a body-contoured silhouette which gave her a mermaid figure, and ended in a flowing skirt at the ankles. The inspiration for her look was the mannequin and was crafted in flocked silicone for perfect molding, and a draped faille skirt. She went jewellery-free, keeping her hair in a wavy sculptured look.
Keke Palmer channelled Dorothy Dandridge when she wore a custom-designed dress by Vera Wang, paired with black tuxedo pants. The all-white dress had a halter top with an open in the front skirt, added with a long train. Her silk bodine was adorned with ivory pearls and Swarovski crystals.
Zendaya represented the theme of the Met Gala in a custom Louis Vuitton three-piece zoot suit designed by Pharell Williams. In all white, she added a jaunty white fedora. And then she made the look totally her own by adding a Bulgari Serpent brooch on her back.
Laura Harrier paid homage to her relatives in a Zac Posen designed outfit for Gap Studio. A denim vest with billowing sleeves and duchess satin pants, all in white and designed with raw natural ecru denim and shank buttons made her a stand-out at the gala. She accessorised with triple-layer pearl Buccatelli jewelry.
Couture is fun and drama and Diana Ross ensured that fashion was all about OTT. In a custom gown designed by her son Evan Ross and designer Ugo Mozie, it held a special meaning to her. The eighteen-foot-feathered shawl that she wore had the names of all her children and grandchildren embroidered on it. Her train in all white was long and dramatic. He had a matching feather-boa-trimmed cape and a sweeping white hat that framed her famous hair. Her all-white gown was decorated with crystals and beads. Absolutely a Diva in white!
