Monochrome goes loud at MET Gala
Going with a single colour is a big fashion gamble, but they made a bold and powerful statement on the red carpet at the Met Gala 2025. Monochromes are a great option for sleek styling and present a cohesive look when the ask is for a tailored look, as was the theme this year. They help create a sophisticated, minimalist, and fashion-forward look.
In a non-traditional baby blue Chanel suit, Lupita Nyong made a style statement all her own on Monday. A sheer cape and cap in the same shade helped make the suit all her dress code. She added a Camellia flower brooch in the same shade. The suit had an aquamarine wool jacket with a satin blouse in the same shade, embellished with a chiffon cape and satin bow.
Serena Williams was another fan of the aquamarine monochrome, this one from Moncler. The off-the-shoulder dress had a cowl neckline and a satin skirt. A fluffy paneled cape in the same icy blue shade made for an arresting look. Silver earrings and wing-shaped barrettes on her hair completed her off-beat appearance.
Pop star Lorde went in monochrome steel grey. The silvery sheen of her bandeau and maxi skirt suit was stunning, and she maximized the sleek lines with a matching tuxedo jacket in the same shade.
Shakira went in baby pink monochrome, in a custom gown designed by Prabal Gurung. The baby pink gown had a voluminous cape attached to it. She also kept the monochrome complete with a white diamond necklace with a pink teardrop diamond at its center.
In a butter yellow suit, Lauryn Hill endorsed the monochrome, adding only a conventional tie and a showstopper Hermes bag in blue. Her suit also had a long yellow train and stand-out collars. She accessorised the look with dramatic gold jewellery.
Zendaya meanwhile went all white monochrome, in a three-piece Louis Vuitton suit, with a matching hat in white. She also wore Bulgari jewellery, even a small white snake brooch placed on the back of her jacket.
